My Wedding Checklist

TIMELINE
6-12 Months Before
  • Announce engagement
  • Choose a wedding date
  • Choose a wedding venue for the Ceremony and Reception
  • Decide on the type of wedding eg. Civil or Religeous
  • Choose a colour scheme
  • Set a budget
  • Choose a photographer
  • Choose your wedding party eg. Best man, Bridesmaids, ushers and Master of Ceremony
  • Start looking at different styles of wedding dressers
  • Look at what flowers are in season at the time of your wedding
  • Look into honeymoon destinations
  • Start drawing up a guest list
  • Decide on a Marriage officer
  • Decide on the type of music you would like and book either a DJ, Band, Violinist etc.
  • Choose and confirm caterers
  • Order the wedding cake
  • Book hairdresser and make up artists (and make arrangments for a trial if required)
  • Send out save the dates (if required)

3-6 Months Before
  • Finalise guest list
  • Write up an order of service with times
  • Order your invitations
  • Book transportation for the wedding party to arrive at the ceremony and for the reception
  • Book the honeymoon
  • Make necessary arrangments at work for your honeymoon leave
  • Buy or Hire your wedding dress
  • Hire or buy outfits for the Groomsmen and Bridesmaids
  • Choose accessories eg. shoes, vail, underwear for the wedding
  • Order favours for the reception (if required)
  • Decide on a store for your wedding registry
  • Decide on reception decor, eg. centerpieces, draping, flower etc, and book suppliers
  • Buy wedding rings
  • Decide on flowers for the bouquets and centerpieces

1-3 Months Before
  • Send out invitations
  • Keep a list of acceptances and refusals
  • start the reception seating plan, but allow for changes
  • Print stationery eg. menues, place cards etc.
  • Choose first dance song
  • Give caterers notice of special dietary requirements
  • Buy a guest book
  • Hold Hens and Stag parties
  • Choose gifts for the wedding party or special individuals

The Month Before
  • Practice putting on the wedding dress and all accessories
  • Reconfirm details with all suppliers and staff involved on the day
  • Draw up the final seating plan
  • Divide place cards into envelopes for the caterers to place on specific tables
  • Confirm arrangments with the bridal party for a wedding rehearsal
  • Pack your luggage for the honeymoon
  • Make sure the Dj or musician has a list of your favourite songs you would like played
  • Hand over any money or cheques for payments to providers, that need to be paid on the day of the wedding to the Best man or a significant member of the wedding party to take care of
